UNDERPASS #1 OF CHOM CHAO INTERCHANGE WAS OPENED TO TRAFFIC

Chom Chao Interchange is located on the junction of Russian Federation Boulevard, Veng Sreng Boulevard, National Road # 3, and National Road #4. Above four roads are all main roads with higher traffic flow in Phnom Penh. Via either National Road #3 or National Road #4, Phnom Penh may get access to Sihanoukville that is the biggest port in Cambodia. Thus this junction became the only way of transportation for import and export. Therefore, constant traffic jam was caused by mass amount of vehicles passing by in this area.

The construction of Chom Chao Interchange was ordered to start in November 2018 by Cambodian government. According to related design, it includes three viaducts, four underpasses, and four ramps. After two years, the underpass #1 of Chom Chao Interchange was officially opened to traffic by the end of October 2020. It released the traffic jam caused by the construction of interchange slightly.

Underpass #1 is an underground tunnel between National Road #4 and Russian Federation Boulevard. With 488 meters long, 8.5 meters wide, one-way driving direction, two lanes for automobiles, and one lane for motorcycles, it satisfied the demand of current traffic flow enormously. In next few months, CSCC will keep working in other area on schedule in order to fasten the completion of whole project and open it to traffic.
